After the War, many forms of life known in pre-war America changed and became nearly unrecognizable. Cows mostly avoided this fate, though only the hardiest breeds (or a mix of the hardiest breeds) survived. Brahmin are the primary source of meat and leather in the Wasteland and can be found almost everywhere, though they usually live close to human settlements. Some areas are home to massive Brahmin ranches – the descendants of the huge Texas ranches from pre-war times. Besides this, Brahmin are also used as pack animals for carts in caravans. They are highly resilient and can survive on very little food. They are indifferent to extreme environmental conditions, from the scorching heat of a summer day to the bitter cold of winter nights in the desert. Brahmin are easily recognizable by their two heads, though rumors persist about the birth of a one-headed calf far to the east. Regardless, many people don't believe such tales. Brahmin are docile unless attacked directly, after which the herd will attempt to defend itself.
