Тrading Trading is an act of turning an item into another. It can be done via barter with NPCs, player to player, or certain different means. One way to get your hands on some money is to trade, by using [Barter] with trader-npcs. The barter effectiveness is determined by the barter skill, which is currently hard-capped at 125. There are also certain traders. as the Arroyo doctor or Renesco in New Reno, that will only trade with charismatic players.

Barter

One way to get your hands on some money is to trade, by using Barter skill with trader-npcs. The barter effectiveness is determined by the barter skill, which is currently hard-capped at 125.

There are also certain traders, as the Arroyo doctor or Renesco in New Reno, that will only trade with charismatic players.

Most NPC traders in the game have a predetermined type of items they keep in their inventories and frequently respawn them, getting rid of anything that does not belong as well as restocking on bought out items, most notably money. Both the respawn rate and its nature is random, so there is no way to farm out a particular resource from a trader. Some traders are left with "anything goes" bussines strategy, which can make them a valuable source of whatever you were just looking for.

When estabilishing your trade routes, make sure to go through every traders inventory at least once and take note of anything interesting they are stocked up on.

Player to player barter

There is also a way to trade with other players. To do so, stand close to the other player, change your cursor to the "action" arrowhead, and click and hold. You then have two options out of the pop up menu. An interface will appear, letting you trade in a way very similar to the NPC trading.

Players can either participate in open barters, in which your inventory is visible to the other player, or closed version, in which it is not. This does not prevent the player for peeking into your inventory as it only takes a split second to check you out with the steal skill without penalty and regardless on the skill value.

When in open mode, other players can drag items from your inventory into the trade window, but can not in any way modify your inventory until both parties agree to trade. This includes tasks like reparing an item or unloading a weapon.

Auction

There is an auction for all your trading needs. It is accessible through the npcs that are standing around market in the centre of [Den]. Auction has its own interface (made by: Elxiz), where you can sell your items and browse through the goods others are selling. You don't need to participate in trading through auction directly. If someone buys your item, you will receive the amount of money (you sold the item for) to your replication balance. Despite the function name, there is no actual auctioning going on and everything is sold at pre determined prices, the system merely functions as a marketplace between players.

It is known that players tend to overprice their items, and it's usually better to buy same items at a lower price from npcs. You should use auction only if you need to buy items which are relatively hard to find (rare books or Power Armor).

You can't auction an item with low durability. (if more than 10% of maximum durability is missing.)

Maximum commission is 500$.

Trader slaves

Full Article: Slavery

When owning a slave, the owner has an option to make the slave trade his goods. He can set various parameters as the slave's prices or to only accept cash.

This is however only really usable on safe locations like bases to distribute goods between faction members or to store items, since the slave is very fragile and not protected by any guards in cities. Having a slave as a public vending machine is almost always a very bad idea.

Also, when using the slave barter option, beware of the limits of their inventory, as stuff will just dissapear from it. A good rule of thumb is only to put stackable items there.

On every server restart, the slave's setting will reset and it needs to be told to open trade by its owner again.

Caravans

Full article: Caravans

Caravans are a system of introducing instance traders. They can be a very valuable source of almost anything in the game, with the only exception of the highest tier stuff. This occasionaly includes huge ammounts of money.

The tradeout with a caravan farming is its vulnerability to another players intrusion, which just will happen whatever you do. Farming caravan farmers is a real thing as players see the trader characters as valuable stuff pinatas. There is no such thing as trying to hide in an off route, as players can be seen on the world map using radar stations.

Caravans spawn almost anywhere on the map and differ from location to location. A different caravan will haul different goods. For instance, a Redding caravan might haul rare ores, while a Gecko caravan computer parts.

Caravans also occasionaly contain special guards which introduce the treasure hunt mechanic.
